Review: Slow Me Down is a brand new album by 3PM from Baltimore, Maryland. The band was formed in 2012 when drummer Brandon Millman and Guitarist Scott Montgomery recruited Brennan Stark as singer and bassist. It wasn't long before the trio found themselves in the studio with renowned producer Paul Leavitt who has worked with bands such as All Time Low, Senses Fail, Strike Anywhere, Such Gold and more. The result is 11 tracks of upbeat, reflective and optimistic pop punk in the realm of Yellowcard, Blink 182 and New Found Glory.
"My heart knows what it wants," sings Brennan on the album's opening track "Something New," "...to take what's mine for once;" the music remind one of listening to an early (if more serious and mature) Blink 182 release. Although the members of the band are still quite young, the music is solid and hints at greater things to come.
One of the stronger songs on the album is "My Soul on Fire." A song about the struggles of growing up and transitioning from a perspective of wonder and excitement about the world to one of confusion. "Time spent here has only made me a head full of doubt... and I don't know where to go, but I'm not alone."Fans who purchase Slow Me Down on a physical CD will get an insert booklet with lyrics. Physical media is a dying breed but some of us still enjoy holding on to an actual album and reading along with the lyrics while listening. So the addition of a lyric booklet is always a plus.
Our Score: 8/10 - Upbeat, catchy guitar riffs with reflective lyrics from a solid young band loaded with potential.
